Patient Fitness to Fly – Full Masterclass

Clinical Assessment & Decision-Making

The Patient Fitness to Fly Full Masterclass is a comprehensive education program designed for clinicians who want a complete, structured understanding of how medical conditions interact with commercial air travel.

This 16-module masterclass brings together altitude physiology, system-based clinical assessment, inflight medical considerations and airline medical clearance processes into a single, cohesive learning pathway. It provides clinicians with the depth and context required to confidently assess patients, manage complex scenarios and deliver clear, defensible fitness-to-fly advice.

Delivered by a multidisciplinary faculty with expertise across cardiology, respiratory medicine, aviation medicine and airline medical operations, the course bridges clinical knowledge with real-world aviation practice. Learners progress from foundational physiology through to applied decision-making, documentation and airline processes.

The full masterclass is ideal for clinicians seeking a holistic, end-to-end understanding of patient fitness to fly, whether for routine pre-travel assessments or more complex medical cases.

  •  A clear understanding of altitude physiology
  •  Better clinical reasoning for air travel risk
  •  Strong foundations for all fitness-to-fly decisions

Cardiology & Air Travel

Presented by Dr Geoffrey Toogood

Learn how air travel impacts patients with cardiovascular disease and how to assess fitness to fly in common cardiac conditions. A practical, evidence-based approach to real-world cardiology and aviation medicine.

  •  Clear guidance for common cardiac scenarios
  •  Confidence with fitness-to-fly decisions
  •  Practical frameworks beyond textbook cardiology

Respiratory Conditions & Air Travel

Presented by Dr Andrew Ng

Develop confidence assessing respiratory patients for air travel, including hypoxia risk, oxygen requirements and when further testing is needed. Ideal for clinicians managing asthma, COPD and other respiratory conditions.

  •  Practical respiratory fitness-to-fly frameworks
  •  Clarity on oxygen needs and testing
  •  Confidence managing complex respiratory cases

Medical Clearance & Airline Processes
